Metamorphosis 6 - Important Notes

  1. Installation
    • As an update it should be installed "over" your current version of Metamorphosis is installed. Installing onto a different drive may mean that the activation system will not be able to generate an activation code.
    • To install and activate this upgrade you have to specifically purchase a license for it or to have a current and valid support contract in place.
    • If your update is a major version change eg. from version 4 to 5, or 5 to 6 then your current activation code will not work. Each major version of Metamorphosis requires its own unique activation code.
    • This installation uses the same graphics library as the full version of v.3. Version 6 will not work with the graphics library from version 2 or earlier. Some users who updated to version 3 are still using the version 2 library, and will therefore need to update their library for version 6.
    • After installing Metamorphosis 6 you may need to point it to your existing graphics library via the menu item:
File > Preferences > Set graphics library location...
    • Once this install is complete you may need to (re)activate Metamorphosis.
  2. Three-size Button Model
    • Early versions of Metamorphosis 6 dynamically scaled navigation and sundry buttons to match the size set for the course window. While this was good in theory, in practice it did present some unintended issues. The way we overcame these issues (starting with version 6.101) was by having each button available in only three different sizes – regular, medium, and small. Metamorphosis will choose the button size appropriate to the size of the course window, though you can override the size and choose a different one.

Themes for early versions of Metamorphosis 6 only provide one button size – regular. If you have created a custom theme then for Metamorphosis 6.101+ it will need to be updated to accommodate the three-size button model.
  3. Themes
    • If you have a custom theme for Metamorphosis prior to version 6 then the theme will need some work to make it compatible with Metamorphosis 6.
  4. Warning
    • Saving/editing a project created with the most current version of Metamorphosis with an older version of Metamorphosis may result in the project being corrupted. For example, you must not save/edit a project created with version 6 with 5. Be careful when opening projects.

If you're unsure, launch the appropriate version of Metamorphosis first and then open your project from it. Generally, it is good practice to wait until you have completed your current project(s) before a "major" upgrade.

Projects are forwards, not backwards, compatible.
  5. Double-Clicking a Project
    • If double-clicking a project opens it with the "wrong" version of Metamorphosis then read this link: FAQ note.
